Proper Pizza and Pasta

Our Journey to Real NY Pizza in LA

From a small shop downtown to a local favorite on 3rd Street — here’s how Proper Pizza and Pasta got started, and why it still feels like home.

Marc and Igor grew up in New York, where pizza is more than just food—it’s part of everyday life. After moving to Los Angeles, they noticed it was hard to find that same classic NY slice. In 2018, they opened a small spot downtown to bring the real thing to the West Coast. The goal was simple: make pizza the right way, using fresh ingredients, honest recipes, and the same style they grew up loving back in New York.

In 2020, they found the perfect spot at 8570 W 3rd St in Los Angeles. The plan was to move in and keep the ovens hot, but the pandemic delayed things. After pushing through the tough times, the doors finally opened in February 2022. This location gave them more room, better access, and a chance to serve more people. It became a place where locals could stop in, grab a slice, and enjoy a real NY-style meal any day of the week.
